Last weekend’s Fairfield County Fall Team Championships drew thirteen teams and 52 players!  The 5th seeded team Jersey Tomatoes dominated the event from the start and finishing a full match point ahead of the highly competitive field with a perfect 4/4 match score!  Impressively, they also scored a total of 12.5/16 total possible board points.  Congratulations to National Master Igor Yeliseyev, Gary Leschinsky, Jane Stripunsky and Felix Dyadyuk on their fine performance!  They earned the $400 (increased from $300 due to the turnout) first prize.

Coming in second place was the team Protected Passed Pawns with 3/4 match points.  Led by expert Michael Uwakwe who scored one of only two perfect individual scores in the tournament, along with strong performances on boards 2 – 4 by Slav Naumowicz, Adriel Alvarado and Sahil Vora respectively, PPP was able to dramatically leap-frog two teams that stood at 2.5/3 going into the final round, but who were unable to maintain their momentum.  They took home the $200 second place prize for their efforts.

With five teams rated U1600, we added an additional $120 prize for that category.  Team Westchester Chess Academy, with expert Michael Amori, Rohan Krishna, Ivan Ziabkin, and Frederick Wang clinched this prize with a round to spare!  Initially ranked 10/13, WCA began the tournament with an impressive 2.5/3 match score, proving that no team could be underestimated!  Not only had they clinched the top U1600 prize, but they even had their eye on the top prize entering the last round!
