Bughouse Marathon

11/4/14

This past election day, while the adult world went about their voting and work duties, eight teams of students visited the CCFC for a special Bughouse Marathon!  The witty team names ranged from “The Return of the Russian Kings” to the “I don’t Knows” to the “Spanish Conquistadors”.  The competition was fierce and unpredictable.  After five hours of bughouse, including many captured kings and slap down mates, three teams in the K-5 section distinguished themselves.  The “Rockin’ Rooks” comprised of Jonahs Mendez and Ambika Grover took 3rd place with 17 points.  “Team Genius” (Alexander Reyes and Jason Lessing) scored an impressive 19.5 to take 2nd place.  Edging them out by the slimmest of margins was team “Kingly Wins” (Sam Forfang and Ryan Roderick) with 20 points!

The champions of the K-8 section were up in the air all the way until the very last round.  “The Return of the Russian Kings” managed an impressive 28 match wins to take second place.  The “Spanish Conquistadors” (Bryan Weisz, Eitan Genger and Gavriel Genger) won all of their games in the final rotation to clinch first place with a score of 31 from a possible 34 points!

Finally, team “Extra Winners” (Gidon Genger and Nicholas Stephens) won the sportsmanship award for the incredible sportsmanship they demonstrated to both their opponents and each other throughout the event.
