K-12 Scholastic Championships

9/17/17

This month's K-12 Championships saw many students reach important milestones for the first time. Arjun Leih along with brothers Max and Jack McAuley tied for first with three points each. Close behind were Jasmine Thiessen and Claire Gillott who finished in 4th and 5th place respectively.

The K-5 section was won by Sandhya Sudarsanam. Sandhya was seeded 5th at the start, but managed to go undefeated! Just behind was Thomas Schiwek, followed by Mateusz Zalewski Hugh Kramer and Becka Kvirikadze.

As always the K-12 section was hotly contested with everyone showing fighting chess and a few impressive upsets. Nicholas Kurbanov was the sole winner with a perfect 3/3! However, the outstanding performance of the event went to Serena Evans who played three of the top seeds and nearly won all three games! Despite losing her last round she gained over 100 new rating points. Congratulations also go to Sahil Vora who also had a very strong performance and crossed the 1200 mark for the first time!

We continue to be impressed by the professionalism and great sportsmanship that our youngest players always display. Congratulations to everyone on a job well done!
