K-12 Scholastic Championships

This month's K-12 Scholastic Championship hosted 37 eager players. With more than half of the players in the K-2 section participating in their first ever tournament it was unclear who would be the favorites. Ultimately the relative veterans, Kiran Behringer and Claire Gillott won the top two spots. However, all of the first time players did well in their games and Anik Muthyapu and Luca Ghedini's efforts were good enough to earn them their first every chess trophies!

The largest section was our K-5 division with 16 players. There were many close games and interesting encounters. In the final round the only two players still with a perfect score, Erik Nebylovych and Harikumar Palaniappan, faced off. Harikumar pulled off the last round mini-upset to win clear first. Close behind were Erik Nebylovych, Jack McAuley, and Hugh Kramer with 3 points each.

Our new K-12 sections continue to be super competitive with the top players rated 1700+ and many other up and coming talents close behind. After the dust had settled, it was Uri Moon-Rosha and Nicholas Kurbanov who tied for first place, both with perfect 3/3 scores! Aurelius Mlynar, Ann Song, Maria Gazoni, Miles Gillott and Serena Evans each scored two points out of three to tie for third place.

Congratulations to all of the winners and thank you to all of our participants who always demonstrate such great determination and sportsmanship!
