Winter G/45 Quads

With the effects of the previous night’s storm still being felt across the region, our attendance at this week’s tournament was lower than usual. However, the games were as exciting as ever! NM Ian Harris was held to a draw in round one by Eric Zhang (whose subsequent win against Melvin Patrick propelled him over 1900). NM Daniel Lowinger won his first two games and thus had the lead going into the final round. The pivotal showdown between Lowinger and Harris was a Dutch Defense with Lowinger pressing on the queenside. Eventually the advantage was clearly in White’s favor but a slip in time pressure gave Harris the last ditch attack that he needed and he never looked back, winning the game and the tournament!
