CCFC Club Championships

Today, CCFC hosted the annual Club Championships! This highly competitive tournament featured 20 strong players, all over the 2000 rating mark. There was a four-way tie for second place, between NM and CCFC Manager Ryan Young, NM Nathaniel Moor, NM Ethan Gu, and CCFC Member Ethan Modi. Each played very strong games!

Starting in Round 1, IM Justin Sarkar played against CCFC Member Tanitoluwa Adewumi. Adewumi played a Kings Indian Defense, and was able to gain a time advantage of about 12 minutes against Sarkar on move 12! Ultimately, Sarkar fell to the time pressure and position, after Adewumi became up an exchange with a tactic on move 27! On board 2, Anthony Levin won a definitive game against NM Alberto Ruiz's Bogo-Indian Defense.

In Round 2, NY Player Anthony Levin played against NM Tyrell Harriott in a French Defense Exchange Variation on Board 1. Ultimately, Anthony Levin found a checkmating net after 29...Bf5, leading to his victory. Board 2 featured a more quiet endgame, between CCFC Member Jack Klein and NM Nathaniel Moor. They started off in a very exciting Italian Game, with Jack playing the Evans Gambit. After a lot of trading and maneovering of the pieces, the game ended with an unfortunate blunder on move 38, where Jack Klein captured a pawn on c7, allowing Nathaniel to checkmate.

In Round 3, NM Nathaniel Moor played against Tanitoluwa Adewumi on Board 1, in a Sicilian Defense. Adewumi captured on e5 with his queen on move 9 with check, leading to an unfortunate binding of Moor's position. Continuing with this advantage, Adewumi was able to force a win on move 26 with a rook sacrifice, leading to a resignation from Moor. On board 2, NY Players David Campbell and Anthony Levin drew quickly after series of checks from Levin on move 21.

Finally, in Round 4, Tanitoluwa Adewumi faced off against NY Player Anthony Levin, in a Sicilian Defense. Again, Adewumi showed off his quickplaying ability, gaining another time advantage while aggressively attacking Levin's kingside. Levin resigned on move 31. Tanitoluwa Adewumi definitively won the 2021 Club Championship with a perfect score of 4/4 points! This was the USCF tournament to promote Tanituluwa to master at only 10 years old, many congratulations!
