2019 Fairfield County Senior Championships

The first ever 2019 Fairfield County Senior Championships drew a highly competitive crowd, including the top seeded International Master Jay Bonin. This tournament boasted many hard fought games, including an epic round two battle between Bonin and Raffaello Piccoli. Despite a few scares in their round two encounter, Bonin eventually managed to maneuver through the complications to get the better of Piccoli who had found himself in deep time pressure.

NM Oliver Chernin (1.5) was able to nick Bonin (2) for a draw in the final round. This allowed expert Michael Amori, having won his final round game, to leap into a tie for first place with Bonin with 2.5/3 total points!

Raffaello Piccoli recovered with a nice final round win to finish with 2/3 points and earning the prize for the top player over 65. Frank DeStefano, who despite a first round loss, bounced back to score 1.5/3. His result was good enough to win the price for the top player rated U1600.

Congratulations to each of the winners and thank you to everyone that participated!
